I am glad to inform you all that the past week has been FULL of wonderful things to write about.

First my sister had her baby!! Yay!!! His name is Isaiah Amari Dunleavy. I cannot express how happy I am that she kept our last name and that I AM AN AUNT!!! woo! I am so excited to come home to see him every day!

Next was the Morten Lauridsen Concert… Check out the songs that we sang with two high schools from the area

Sure on this Shining Night     and      O magnum mysterium

Theywere, I guess, illegally put online so I can share the concert with you all now! Haha. It was the best concert I have ever had. I got to talk to Morten Lauridsen and have dinner with him and rehearse with him. (If you do not know who I am talking about go to my second or third blog there is a link to his page, what wonderful music he writes!) After the concert I had him sign my Lux Eterna. He is such an over whelming guy. Everytime he talked I was tearing up. He told us about how he wrote some songs, and it was so moving and inspiring. He makes me want to be a GREAT musician. He wanted us to record his songs. Our choir. Rowan University. We sang the pieces how he wanted to hear them. How he wrote them to sound. It was the best compliment I have ever heard. (PS we are recording his songs!!)

Third on a not so good note, My car kind of crapped out for a while. After I got back from spring break it started acting up. Of course it didnt happen before spring break was over, but it is what it is. I got to spend ALL week with Mark, my fiance, and I learned a lot about how I am going to feel when we live together. Man, It is going to be ROUGH at first. But amazingly enough. As much as we fought and did not like eachother, we still wanted to around eachother. We are either some kind of sick and twisted, or trully in love. =) I like to think it is LOVE!!

Also, another cool thing happened. The girl that found me here and started talking to me on facebook came and visited Rowan. It was so cool to have her there. She was sweet, but still so unsure about which school to go to. It would be nice if she came here. Everyone got to know her a little bit and talk about the school to her. It was crazy how many people were willing to accept her and help her and talk about how great Rowan is. It just reminded me of how much of a family the vocal department is. For the most part there is not the catty-ness and competition that I know happens in other places.

But I must go to work, when I get back tonigth I will post the pics of my nephew!! Love to all!!

So, I have absolutely been a slacker. I do apologize to those who read my blogs, but it has been about two weeks since I have written about my entrancingly interesting life. (hehe)

I will confess that I have avoided writing this blog. I don’t want to turn away prospective students because they find out that there is school work is given at college, but I guess that is what you come here for, right? To learn about the things you love.

I came to college to be a nerd about choral music. There I said it. And all of those who come to college need to admit it. (about their own subject of course)

I sometimes become a perfectionist. That is what happened in the last couple of weeks. I just wanted all my school work to be perfect and all of my midterms to be A’s. I dont really need to say this, but I stressed myself out. I just put too much pressure on myself. But I got outside of that stress for a little bit during midterm week and was able to got to dunch with one of my sisters from SAI!! It was Melissa Lexa. I rarely ever hang out with her, but I am so glad that I did. It really helped my stress level.

Anyway, Last week was spring break!! I got to catch up on my school work and sleep. Which might not sound like fun to YOU, but it made my life so much better. I dont need to stress myself out now. And I also got my BRIDESMAIDS all together!! We had breakfast. The age range of the 7 of them is 9-23. That is crazy and I was worried that they wouldnt get along, but THEY DID. AND I got to pick up my wedding dress. To the surprize of everyone there it fit PERFECTLY!! No hemming! Oh yeah! that is less money for me to spend. I just need to bustle it. I want to apologize to you, but I will not post a picture of me in the dress online. I cannot risk Mark (my fiance) finding it and risk all of the bad luck that supposedly comes with that. BUT Stay tuned because I will be posting pictures of it LIKE CRAZY after November 29. (thats my wedding day! yay!)

Okay. This one is my favorite, so listen (or intently read, what ever). A girl who is going to be a vocal music education major next year found my blog and found me on Facebook. She was trying to decide between schools and just simply asked me questions about Rowan.

I am just so happy to be able to tell her about Rowan. It does not matter to me which school she chooses, because where ever she goes she will get out of it what she puts into it, and ultimately it is about what environment works best for her comfort and learning levels. But It was awesome to talk about and promote Rowan. Before I came here and at the beginning of my first year, I was not sure that I would like it here. Because its Rowan. its too close to be a good school.

But as it turns out I LOVE IT HERE. I feel that it is a great program and would love for everyone to be able to experience it.

…to be continued…

So, sometimes I eat my skin.

You know those hang nails that appear out of no where. I bite them off, and that is a bad habbit I want to break.

But, I must let everyone know that my last post was more a pensive post than a feel bad for me post. And I recieved comments online and by mouth from many friends!. Thank you, I now know my audience and who I am addressing.

This week has been VERY eventful and exciting and I have been impatient about writing this post. However it was so eventful that I feel I need to break it into 4 parts, and unlike the Cadets show, my story does not revolve around a door.

Part ONE: Sunday
s31506135_31551042_2120
So, in response to my blog about how my family is getting bigger- I can give the details now!

I Got my little!! YAY!! Virginia Krips is the girl and I am so excited!
s692114465_330400_6121 This is our signature picture, which we take everytime we have a camera, so be ready to see these alot!
I have known her since my sophomore year in high school, and amazingly we are still friends. That makes me so happy.

I also got a “twittle” (this phrase was coined by Ang and Kathleen). She is my Big’s second little, and it is just a ton of fun! It just gets confusing when we try to figure out my Twiddle (Molly) and Virginia’s relationship. Haha!

As her big, I got VA presents, because she deserves them and I so was going to use this picture and photoshop her head into it. virginia-gang-sign Fun times

Part TWOOO: Monday - Thursday

So, this part of the week I am really laughing at myself. I have come to the realization that I live for Dr. Stroope. Now this is worded quite awkwardly, but hear me out. I have two classes with him that meet four days a week (out of a possible 5). I also work for him in his office.

But on top of that I agreed to go over his house with a few other choir people and Stuff envelopes of music. Now, I do not think any of this is a bad thing, I have just realized that I am crazy and I might do too much, but I have handled it this far. =)

The Adventure of stuffing Envelopes

Once upon a time three students whose names all began with the letter “S” agreed to be good helpful students and stuff envelopes of music for their choir director. Little did they know of the many trials, and obstacles they would have to face. The first student, Steve, came armed and prepared with his sheilding GPS and did not feel the wrath that the other two students were so unforturnate to face.

Sarah and Stephanie left the safehold of Rowan together only to discover that a storm of snow and Ice had blown through the land. After trekking through the piles of snow, the two students had to scrape the snow off of their vehicle of transportation. HPIM0032

The map that was to lead the two students to the house of their choir director was a few squiggles and unconnected words. So, they travled the path as they interpreted it from that map. They two girls were unable to find their way.

So basically, Stephanie and I were lost. So, we called Dr. Stroope, and found out that we went the WRONG way. So we were on the phone for about 15 minutes until we got to his house. Actually we turned into the correct developement, but thought we went the wrong way and turned around in the drive way next to his house.

While the three students were stuffing envelopes, Stephanie won. (haha)

The End

Part 3: The NJMEA Convention.

Soooo, thursday night I was scheduled for work, so I went to the convention Friday morning. It was a wonderful time. Excepot for the fact that it snowed on the way there, and my ride wasn’t there, so I got a ride with…. Dr. Stroope, since I was going to be in his clinic anyway.

I love NJMEA. It always makes me feel pumped about my future teaching career. I get all of the neat tips and I learn so much with out the pressure of testing on it later. I start to formulate ideas about how I will teach and mold young minds in the awesome ways of Music. I get stacks of FREE (YES FREE) Octavos. It is a fantastic time.

This year was especially awesome, because I roomed with two Beautiful sisters. s31510138_31502091_3551 This girl is SEXY Angela ( Another year sexier lol)! She and I bonded the whole weekend. For two reasons
1) we were the ONLY vocalist (we are so cool) and we liked to talk about choir stuff
2) we are birthday buddies
3) it just worked out that way

she has made my life the in past couple of days

And finally
Part Four: Monday

So, on Monday I got to hang out with Angela MORE. We went to Goodwill (for about 2 or 3 hours) and got lots of clothes. My Huge bag cost only 26 dollars!!! WOOO!! It was so relaxing and fun. I havent shopped for clothes with another girl in so long. After all of the shopping she invited me over to her house for a dinner that she cooked. It was like a vegatarian lasagna with eggplant on top. It was soo good. The dinner was with all sisters- Liz, Lindsay, Amanda C., Ang and me. We had so much fun taking pictures with Angela’s apple notebook. (This pictures will be posted as soon as I can access them)

This has been my most social week and it has been so refreshing after that sickness a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you for sticking around and reading this much about me

14th Feb, 2008

hello… is anyone there?

Just a thought. Am I alone in this crazy blogging world. maybe if you read this you can leave me a comment. Just so I know if there are people on the other side. haha it sounds like I want to talk to ghosts. But to be honest, you all feel like ghosts. I do not know who you are, or what you want to know, or what questions you have. I do not know my audience, so most of my blogs have been a monologue that I would have with only myself. I think a person could really go insane this way. If there really was nothing on the other side… or if there is something and it never manifests itself. Just the being alone and wondering if there was something would drive me crazy. I can’t do the whole no people thing. I would probably go crazy really fast. Like maybe a week.

so yeah, if you can, leave a comment. Keep me from going insane… haha

This was almost a pointless blog- almost

So it is a Thursday. This week is going by slow, but I had a very exciting event happen! A class of mine was cancelled, so a few of us went out for lunch.

I have to let you know, this is one of the things I LOVE about college. Its the middle of the day and we can leave campus and its ok. We aren’t held down by school rules that say we can’t leave and get good food.

Anyway, It was Angela, Steve and I. We are all people in the vocal part of the department, so we talked a lot about choir and Dr. Stroope. One thing we talked about it how lucky we are to have him here. I am not sure if those of you reading this know about him at all, but he is our choir director and he is a composer. I think every university should have a composer as their choir director. He just exposes us to so much. I was in a choir that was conducted by Sir David Wilcocks! I got to talk to Sir David Wilcocks! If you don’t know anything about him, than look him up. He is a big deal! Our concert and the trip he took over to the United States is the last trip that he plans to make here. This coming semester I get to meet Morten Lauridsen !!

I am so excited, because this man writes the most GORGEOUS music. If you have ever heard of Eric Whitacre, it is kind of like that, but a bit more laid back. EVERY harmony is not completely dissonant. Actually, thinking about it, I think that Lauridsen is a mix of Palestrina and Whitacre. His music is so heavenly, but it based on a lot of dissonance. Beautiful.

But I do want you to know that Dr. Stroope writes beautiful music also. My favorite peice of his is Caritas Et Amor. It is based on a chant. And the Latin translation of all the words is “where this is charity and love, there is God” and “Joy that is immense.”

When we were talking about Dr. Stroope I told them that deciding to work for him this year was the best thing I have done during my college career. I have learned so much from him by just being able to observe him. And he makes me interested in history. I trully believe that he and his other friends that are composers (like Morten Lauridsen) are the composers who will influence the big name composers of tomorrow. These are the people that I am going to teach about when I teach music history. Dr. Stroope, Sir David Wilcocks, Morten Lauridsen. Instead of having to research them to teach about them I can give first hand accounts. Its like learning about Beethoven, except I am working for him.

We really are so lucky here. I know that some people who come here just dont see it. If they cant see it with Dr. Stroope I hope they see it in the rest of the teachers here.

My family is growing!

My Sister is pregnant and I am going to have a nephew within two months!!

AND we found out about which new sisters we will be getting into SAI! (I cant tell anything specific yet, BUT I can tell you that my tree grew TIMES FOUR) and I know that those of you out there reading this may not understand, but I just have to let you know it is the most exciting time! I can’t wait to accept these girls into our sisterhood and watch them grow as people and grow together with us.

I really have come to the realization that the sisters of SAI have become really close, and that we rule the school (haha). Well, today I was in the computer lab trying to write my paper for Styles (which is like a music history class) and everyone else is doing the same thing that I am, except their class is today and my class is tomorrow. All the sisters that were in the computer lab got help from eachother and we were keeping eachother calm- even when one was 15 minutes late for class! We really do look out for each other. And I was over exagerating a bit when I said that we rule the school, but seriously, around the music building the girls that are the most invovlved and active in everything this school has to offer is the girls of SAI. It is such a great group of people to be a part of.

well this is enough procrastination, I will have lots of blogs this week to make up for my week of SICK last week.

Musically YOURS!!

SARAH

OK so this week I got sick. This is one thing everyone has to learn in college. 1) there are more people in one place, than you have probably ever experienced. 2) They get sick sometimes. 3) If you dont get enough sleep, take your vitamins and take care of yourself, you are probably going to get sick.

most of the time its not that bad. Maybe a cold here and there, but whatever. I have to be honest, everyone I was hanging out with was sick- the same kind of sick. And I was just plain lazy. I didnt bother to take care of myself- I had to finish a fight with my finacee instead. SO, I was up late, no vitamins, not enough water- I did everything wrong. I swear to you I would have been fine if I just kept with my normal routine, but no, I had to fight.

SOOOO I decided that Instead of this weeks post being all Boo-whoo I am sick woe is me… I am going to post a bunch of pictures!! (and explain them of course, because thats just me haha)

YAY now I can post pictures!

HPIM0096 HPIM0095 HPIM0094 These are the girls at SAI they are are both sisters and rushs and they ALL ROCK!!

HPIM0082 This is me messing around with the camera. I so love weird-faced pictures!

100_0089 This is the best picture of the Hollywood sign I got while I was in California. That was over the summer and it was the best time of my life because…100_0073 That is where Mark proposed to me!! Yay! I am going to be so young when I get married, but  I really can not see myself with anyone one else ever.

100_0040 This is a random picture of me in front of a cool something in CA. I think it was at the Science Center.

100_0133 This is the creepy hallway in between plane terminals. We were hungary and wanted good food that was not in our terminal. The hallway went on FOREVER and the sign made it so awkward because it says that familys should stay together while in the hallway. It was a part of my life that I felt needed to be documented Haha.

S5030006 These are my LOVELY bridesmaids. Well, half of them. And these are the pretty dresses they are wearing (except the dresses will be in wine)

Yay for life… more picture to come later…

The mighty sophomore

Greek: sophos, wise, and mōros, stupid - dictionary.com

Wise and Stupid. Well, I guess it is fitting because by now I have gained so much knowledge. However, I am still allowed to be a little unprofessional. I can have a little more fun than I could as a Senior. I am sure I will have more fun as time goes on with all the awesome people that I keep meeting. Last night was the first Rush event for SAI. It was ICE CREAM SOCIAL NIGHT. haha. We are a semi new organization on campus, so there are only about 20 people in it currently. I am so excited to be able to tell the world that there were about 10 girls that came to rush. They are all wonderful people and I hope they all decide to stay and join SAI.

Let me give a little back story, because if I was reading this as a prospective student I would be completely turned off. I NEVER wanted to be a sorority girl. But I have to let you know SAI is different. We are a true sisterhood. Our main scene is not partying and drinking and being stupid like that. We work to improve the world by spreading music. And we love to have social events just to have fun with each other. We love to tell everyone that all we do is EAT, TAKE PICTURE and CRY. haha (its is a happy cry because we are all girls like that lol) And in case you may be interested in joining I want to let you know that there is NO HAZING. And in case you are smart and know that every sorority tells you that, then does it later anyway, Just know that we really do not. Unless you feel like taking pictures is hazing. But seriously, think about it- why would you want to hurt someone that is going to be your sister. How can you ever really love them or respect them out of love. If it is respect out of fear instead of love it is not a family, It is a government or something. If you want more info about the wonderful Roses of SAI I have a Link on the right hand side of the page, check it out>>>>>>>>>

I will allow you to sink deeper into my life later, but it is time to do work!

PiCTurEs!

So, The whole no pictures thing was because I am not so smart when it comes to computers apparently. SO, since I know you all have been wondering what my beautiful face looks like- here it is:

Myspace look

I was not feeling very “say cheese”-ish when I took the picture, but don’t worry there will be plenty more pictures to come.

So after today I have been through a full week of classes. It is strange, but I am so happy to be back.  I get to be with all my friends and I get to sing everyday. I  do not think I could ever get tired of singing. It is so amazing what sounds come out of me sometimes. When I am working with a teacher and what they say clicks, I blow myself away. Now, do not think that I actually think I am good- I do not want a blog simply to brag about myself, I just want to express that I am on this journey to discover my voice and it is so exciting when I get it a step further. But, back to the subject of classes, I am at the perfect level as a sophomore this year. Since I am an education major as well as a music major I have to find time to fit all education classes into my schedule each semester. For the most part they were not geared toward music majors, but focused on the academic teacher (English, math, science, history, etc.). This semseter I am in two classes that music majors used to dread- Teaching Literacies and Edcational Technology. However, they are no longer something to avoid taking. This semester, new sections of each class were created that focused on the music majors. In Educational Technology it is just for music majors and in Teaching Literacies the class is made up of only music, art and PE teachers.

I love all my classes. By this point in my college career I have been around long enough to know a large amount of people in the music department and on campus. I know almost everyone in all of my classes, so it will be so easy to have study groups, or to get homework if I am sick. Maybe I do not get to meet as many knew people as I did last year, or even last semester it is okay. Besides I have many opportunities to meet people that are off campus. I am going to The MENC and ACDA conventions where Instrumental and Choral directors from all over the state and the east coast will be meeting. I went to the MENC convention last year and I got so much free music, and was able to participate in a number of clincs and learn so much about music and teaching music. The people from MENC stayed there over night and after the convention was over during the day we drove around New Brunswik and attended a concert, went out to eat, and just hung out. It was so much fun and it was definitley where I was able to meet and get to know some of the people that are my friends now. Just a little side note- I know that prospective music majors are reading my blog, and I just want you guys to know that MENC (and the ACDA chapter) is a great opportunity to meet people at Rowan and network in the area. I would definitely recomend joining (if for nothing else than for the free food on Mondays lol).

So, last night I got to see all my beautiful sisters of SAI. I love when we all get together because although we each individually are not best friends, there is a true friend and a close bond between us all. We are a music fraternity for girls and all strive to be the best musicians and people we can be. We really are some of the most active people in the department.

Time for class- more picture and fun stories about my semster to come…

FIRST BLOG!!

So, a new blog. I haven’t really been a blogger lately. Not since middle school in the Live journal, Dead journal days. But here I am writing blogs for Rowan allowing all the outsiders to have a peek inside this world. I hope you like it, because I know I do. Sometimes is hectic and crazy, but that is how I LOVE life. Otherwise I am bored. But lets stop I shall give you a bit of background on me, so that you know where I am coming from and possibly to help you understand my perspective.

Hello, my name is Sarah! I am a sophomore vocal music education student and a commuter. I am going into my spring semester. I am 19 and engaged. Now just because I am young and engaged, do not get crazy thoughts in your head- I am NOT pregnant! However, I am going out with someone who is way older that I am, so he is ready to settle, and I love him, so I said YES! And now while attending college I am planning my wedding which is going to happen by the end of 2008 (CRAZY I know). I currently teach colorguard at Triton High School. For those of you who are unsure- yes we are the flag people in the marching band (lol). It is so much fun! The students love to learn and the staff is insane- in a good way usually =)!  I also work in a clothing store near the Deptford mall. Retail is awesome- in a very Not awesome way.  But it is money and I already got a raise and a promotion, so apparently I am good at it. The people I work with are the best, but the people who shop there do not seem to realize that WE have to clean up their awful mess. I guess that is really the worst part, oh and when people decide to yell at me for things beyond my control, but I think that happens anywhere.

Well, I think that is a good intro. I have been trying to post a picture of me so that you can put a face to a name, but my computer is not cooperating, so I promise I will have good pictures up as soon as I can!

Until then, I hope that everyone who reads this enjoys my life for the next semester. I hope you find what you are looking for here =)

Much love to you all,

Sarah !
